Terms of Service
In short. Use Poliglo to learn, be respectful, and follow our Acceptable Use & AI Policy, which forbids using the AI to create harmful or illegal content. AI can make mistakes. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in your store account. We can suspend accounts that break these rules.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a contract between you and Poliglo (“Poliglo”, “we”, “us”) for our website, web app and mobile apps (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use & AI Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old (or older where your country requires it for consent to online services). If you are under the age of majority, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you.
- Give accurate information and keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us at once if you suspect unauthorised use.
- One person per account. Do not sell, share or transfer accounts.
2. The Service
Poliglo lets you read content in the language you are learning, look up words, save flashcards, track progress, and use optional AI features such as content generation, translation, explanations, audio, image scanning and an AI tutor. We may change, add or remove features, and we may limit usage to keep the Service available and affordable.
3. AI features
- AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or inappropriate. Translations, grammar explanations, tutor replies and generated stories are learning aids, not professional advice. Verify anything important. Do not rely on the Service for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.
- AI output is generated for you and may be similar to output generated for others. To the extent permitted by law, you may use output for your personal, non-commercial learning.
- Your prompts and inputs are processed by third-party AI providers, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- We use automated systems to block requests and outputs that violate our Acceptable Use & AI Policy. Blocks can occasionally be mistaken; you can contact us to review them.
- The AI tutor is not a person. It is not a therapist, counsellor or emergency service. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service, including its AI features, for anything prohibited by the Acceptable Use & AI Policy. This includes, without limitation, creating or seeking content that sexualises minors or promotes or normalises child sexual abuse, sexually explicit material, hateful, harassing or violent content, instructions for serious harm or crime, and attempts to bypass our safeguards. You also agree not to: scrape or bulk-download the Service or its dictionary, reverse engineer it, probe or disrupt it, use bots, automate accounts, farm bonus coins or referrals, resell access, or build a competing product from our output at scale.
5. Your content
- You keep ownership of the text, files and other material you import or create (“Your Content”).
- You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, process, display and send Your Content to our service providers as needed to operate and protect the Service, and, for content you mark as shared or public, to show it to other users.
- You promise that you have the right to import and share Your Content and that it does not infringe others’ rights or break the law. Do not import material you do not have the right to use.
- We may remove or restrict content that breaks these Terms or the law. Copyright owners can send notices to [email protected]; we remove infringing content and may close the accounts of repeat infringers.
6. Our content and third-party material
The Service, including its design, software, branding and library content we provide, belongs to Poliglo or its licensors and is protected by law. We give you a personal, limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. Dictionary data comes from Wiktionary under CC BY-SA 4.0. Some library texts are in the public domain or used under open licences; their licences remain in force.
7. Subscriptions, coins and purchases
- Free tier. Core features, including AI lookups and translations while reading, are free.
- Premium subscription. Offered monthly or yearly. The price, billing period and renewal terms are shown before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings; deleting the app does not cancel it. Access continues until the end of the paid period.
- Coins. Coins pay for AI features that cost us money (such as generating content or tutor message packs). The coin price is quoted before you confirm. Coins have no cash value, cannot be transferred or redeemed for money, and are not a stored-value account. Unused coins are lost when your account is closed. Coins may be refunded to you when an AI job fails on our side, and when we block a request under our Acceptable Use & AI Policy before producing a result.
- Billing and refunds. Purchases are made through Apple App Store or Google Play and are subject to their terms. Refund requests are handled by the store under its policy; we cannot issue refunds for store purchases ourselves. If a purchase is refunded, we may remove the related plan or coins. Statutory rights, such as withdrawal rights in the EU and UK, are not affected.
- Welcome and referral coins are promotional, may be changed or withdrawn, and may be reversed if obtained through abuse.
- Prices may change; we will tell you before a subscription price change takes effect, as the stores require.
8. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account in the app at any time. We may warn you, remove content, limit features, suspend or permanently close your account, without refund of coins or fees to the extent the law allows, if you break these Terms or the Acceptable Use & AI Policy, if required by law, or if your use creates risk for others or for us. For serious violations, such as child sexual exploitation, we may act immediately and report to authorities. See the Acceptable Use & AI Policy for how to appeal.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that AI output will be correct or suitable, or that you will reach any level of language proficiency.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Poliglo and its affiliates, officers, employees and licensors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and consumers keep the mandatory rights of their country.
11. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you will defend and indemnify Poliglo against claims, losses and costs arising from Your Content, your misuse of the Service, or your breach of these Terms or the law.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING JURISDICTION], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers may bring claims in the courts of their home country where the law gives them that right. Before filing a claim, please contact [email protected] and give us 30 days to resolve it.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will notify you of material changes in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after the effective date, you accept the changes; if you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account. Where there is a translation of these Terms, the English version controls.
14. General
These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Acceptable Use & AI Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in a merger or sale. Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and have no obligation to support the app; Apple’s standard licensed application end-user terms also apply to the iOS app.
